Gaza, ALRAY - More than one million people in Gaza Strip, who make up more than half of the population, may not have enough food by June, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Monday.
In a statement, UNRWA explained that more than half of the population of the Strip depended on food aid provided by the international community. It urgently needs to provide at least 60 million dollars by next month in order to continue to provide food to more than a million Palestinian refugees in Gaza.
"There are about 620,000 people who suffer from extreme poverty – they cannot meet their basic nutritional needs and have to live on less than $1.6 dollar per day – and about 390,000 people with absolute poverty – those who live on less than 3.5US dollar per day – will be in front of a Bruise for big challenges “.
She noted that UNRWA was funded almost entirely through voluntary contributions, and financial support had not matched the growth in requirements.
