Gaza, ALRAY - Palestinian efforts are exerted in the United Nation in order to renewed the term of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees "UNRWA" for other three years, the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour stated.
He said that Palestinian side held in cooperation with Arab groups several meetings and made contacts with friend nations to gather votes to renew UNRWA term.
It is expected that the countries participating in the meeting of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations next Friday, are to singe on the decision to extend the term of UNRWA as every time despite the pressure from some countries to prevent it.
The participating countries are to assemble on Monday in order to discuss to issues, the first is of renewing the term of UNRWA while the second is to discuss the Israeli violations in the Palestinian territories.
He noted that Palestinian side exert pressure on all the countries that announced that they will donate to the agency, and did not bridge the $ 83 million deficit until the end of the year.
Mansour accused US and Israel of carrying out attack against UNRWA for two years in order to destroy it, noting that the resignation of Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl comes in the same context because he defended both Palestinian refugees and the agency.
He said that withholding the donations aims to remove the Palestinian refugees from the table of political solution.
UNRWA was established by a UN General Assembly resolution in 1949 to serve some five million Palestine refugees registered in its five areas - Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
It provides education, health care, relief, social services, infrastructure, camp improvement and microcredit services.
