Occupied WB, ALRAY - The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) transferred 77-year-old cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails Muwaffaq Arouq from Barzilai Medical Center to al-Ramleh prison clinic, despite his deteriorated health condition.

Arouq was transferred from Barzilai center just two weeks after undergoing a surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his intestines, said Commission of Detainees’ Affairs in a statement on Wednesday.

The commission warned of the aggravated health condition of prisoner Arouq, particularly he is among the oldest Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

It pointed out that Arouq is in need of urgent specialized medical follow-up, calling for his immediate release.

Prisoner Arouq was detained in 2003 and is now serving a sentence of 30 years in prison. He is among at least 10 Palestinian prisoners who suffer from cancer.

According to Palestinian figures, about 5,700 Palestinians, including 48 women and 250 children, are currently languishing in Israeli detention jails.
