West Bank, ALRAY – Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian Territories are illegal under international law and constitute as serious obstacle to the prospect of a sustainable and acceptable solution for both sides, said Italian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry expressed, in a press statement issued on Saturday, deep concern over the Israeli occupation government’s announcement to construct thousands of housing units in occupied East Jerusalem.
It also urged the Israeli occupation authorities to reconsider the declared decision.
The ministry reaffirmed that Italy remains convicted that achieving a just and lasting peace based on internationally recognized standards and relevant United Nations resolutions can only be guaranteed by a two-state solution, with Jerusalem as a capital for both sides.
On Thursday, Israeli occupation PM Benjamin Netanyahu made an announcement to construct thousands of new illegal housing units in occupied East Jerusalem.
