Israeli occupation authorities install new cameras at al-Aqsa entrances

Occupied Jerusalem, ALRAY - The Israeli occupation authorities installed new surveillance cameras at the entrances of the al-Aqsa Mosque Compound, just three months after the upheaval of Jerusalemites aimed to prevent changes that would alter the status que in Jerusalem.


It aimed also to spurn the erection of metal detector at the entrances of the al-Aqsa mosque, Israeli Channel 10 revealed on Tuesday evening.


The channel reported that the surveillance cameras were installed in accordance with the recommendations of the Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, to use high-tech security means.


The Israeli forces erected the surveillance cameras at all entrances of the al-Aqsa mosque, except the Lions’ Gate that witnessed acts of protests and sit-ins by the Jerusalemites during the al-Aqsa incidents took place in June 2017.


The channel quoted a senior official in the Islamic Endowments of Jerusalem as saying, “the cameras were installed in total silence, and no one informed us about them.”


In turn, religious authorities in occupied Jerusalem ratified their categorical rejection of the new Israeli measures aim at making changes in Jerusalem’s status que.


Israeli police sources stated that the high-tech security systems approved by the Israeli Security Cabinet, as an alternative to metal detectors which were removed from the entrances of the Muslim holy site of the al-Aqsa mosque last June, would provide a great deterrence to prevent attacks, Haaretz newspaper reported.
