Ramallah, ALRAY - The Israeli government is expected to approve on Sunday the construction of 31 new settlement units in the West Bank town of Hebron, according to Israeli sources.

In response to a plan presented by Israeli defense minister, Avigdor Lieberman, to expand settlements in the West Bank, the Israeli government is set to approve a $7 million budget for the construction of the units, the first of its kind in 16 years, the newspaper added.

The project will take place in Shuhada Street, at the center of the city which was divided into two parts in 1997. The old part of the city where the Ibrahimi Mosque is located, is controlled by Israel, while the other part is under the control of the Palestinian Authority.
