Jerusalem, ALRAY – The member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), head of the Jerusalem Affairs Department, Ahmad Qurie, warned of the dangers of racist settlement projects and proposals by the extreme right-wing parties, leaders, ministers and members of the Knesset, considering it a challenge to the international community and its efforts to advance the settlement process in the region.
In a press release, Qurei condemned a proposal to annex five major settlements to the city of Jerusalem, Ma'aleh Adumim, Gush Etzion, Givat Zeev, Betar Illit and Efrat, which was filed by Israeli Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz.
Qurei stressed the danger of these Judaic schemes on the city of Jerusalem and the efforts exerted to revive the settlement process and the option of a two-state solution.
Qurei called on the international community to firmly stand against these illegal settlement proposals and projects, which would destroy the rest of the city of Jerusalem.
He pointed out that the Israeli occupation government is always seeking to approve such schemes and discuss them in order to increase the number of Jewish residents in the city of Jerusalem.
"In light of these proposals and settlement projects in which the Israeli occupation government operates on the ground, the international community is required to force Israel government to immediately stop its settlement activities and to implement the UN resolutions on settlements, which the Security Council condemned as illegitimate." He said.
Therefore, Israeli government takes the moral and legal responsibility for the annexation of these settlements and the settlement expansion at the expense of Palestinian lands, Qurei added.
