Ehud Olmert is the first Israeli prime minister to be charged with corruption cases and served a year and a half before being released recently.

All the prime ministers of Israel , since its establishment in 1948, beginning with the first prime minister of David Ben-Gurion and even the current head of government Benjamin Netanyahu, Walla site reported.


The report explained that Netanyahu is not the first Israeli prime minister involved in corruption cases, five precedent prime ministers involved in corruption cases but none of them were charged with corruption cases. Ehud Olmert is the first Israeli prime minister to be charged with corruption cases and served a year and a half before being released recently. 


According to the report, Ben-Gurion, is the first Israeli prime minister, was involved in a case with his son, Amos, who served as deputy police chief. Ben-Gurion defended his son desperately , before the "Pu-Gurion" trial ,who was acquitted by the Court.


The report also noted to the Dollar Account affair ,a political scandal in Israel in 1977, following the exposure of an illegal US Dollarbank account held by Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and his wife Leah.[1] It led to Rabin's de facto resignation from the government. 


Netanyahu, when who was a prime minister in 1996 , faced many corruption charges that were closed up to a recommendation of Israel attorney general.


In 1999, when Ehud Barak was prime minister, he faced a corruption case regarding Amotot, a charity that was suspected of supporting his Labor Party, before the case was closed in 2000 when Likud member Yitzhak Herzog refused to present a testimony against him.


In 2001 Prime Minister Ariel Sharon along with his son Gilad were involved in a corruption case regarding the Greek island in which Sharon charred with providing facilitate to his son and a number of Israeli businessmen in several Israeli governmental institutions in exchange for personal services. In that time no indictment was filed against Sharon, his son and his partners. The then attorney general ordered the case closed because there were no witnesses.


Sharon, along with his second son Omri, faced another corruption case after receiving financial support from South African businessmen to support his campaign in 2003, in which his son was sentenced to seven months in prison instead of his father.
