Amman, ALRAY – Greek Orthodox Patriarch Theophilus III stated that the Patriarchate will appeal to the Central Court against the latest decision of the Israel Supreme Court, "Bab Al-Khalil" case.
The Patriarch held a press conference Saturday evening at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Amman, Jordan.
He said, "We will initiate an appeal process to the Israeli Supreme Court, where we have confidence there will be a decision based purely on legal matters and justice, and the Patriarchate will exert huge efforts in order to overturn this unjust decision."
He added, "We are obliged to take unprecedented procedure. Through this press conference, we refuse this unfair decision, issued by the Israeli Central Court about "Bab Al-Khalil" case."
He continued, "This decade-long legal combat leads to the unfair decision, ignoring several legal proofs presented by the Patriarchate proving bad faith, bribery, and conspiracy."
He stressed that this decision, in favor of the settlement Association "Ateret Cohanim", interpreted as a politically-motivated decision.
In terms of this case, the Israeli settlers will seize the largest buildings in the Old City of Jerusalem: Petra Hotel and Imperial Hotel at the entrance to the Bab al-Khalil.
