West Bank, ALRAY - Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on Monday Israeli approval of a project to establish 780 new settlement units in the West Bank, considering it a blatant violation of international legitimacy.
Ahmad Hafeth, the official spokesperson of Egyptian foreign ministry stressed in a statement on Sunday the Egyptian refusal to the Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including east Jerusalem, and the need to stop it immediately.
Hafeth expressed Egypt concerns over settlement activities that it would undermine the possibility of achieving the two-state solution and constitute challenges to the relentless efforts that are currently being paid in order to push forward the peace process and resuming the negotiation track between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
Bilateral committee of planning and constructing of Israeli civil administration has approved on Sunday evening the construction of new 792 settlement units in several settlement in West Bank.
Globes Hebrew newspaper reported that the planes includes constructing settlement units in the settlement of Tal Menashe and outposts near Qalqilya in the northern West Bank that have not been settled yet.
The committee discussed the possibility of allowing some Palestinian building to be built in the surrounding areas of occupied Jerusalem, such as the village of Hizma and Walaja, and areas close to Bethlehem and Beit Jala, which are located inside areas classified as C according to the Oslo Accords.
Israeli settlers objected the decision , no final approval reached.
