Ramallah, ALRAY - At least 226 Palestinian detainees have died inside the Israeli occupation jails since 1967, said Abdel Nasser Farwana, a Palestinian prisoners' rights expert.
Farwana pointed out in a press statement that hundreds of the Palestinian detainees have also died after being released from Israeli jails due to the torture and medical negligence they had been exposed to during the years of detention.
During the past ten years, over 29 Palestinian detainees were killed due to deliberate medical neglect policy. In 2020, four detainees were killed in Israeli prisons, named as Nour al-Din Barghouti, Saadi al-Gharabli, Dawood al-Khatib, and Kamal Abu Waer.
Around one million Palestinians have been detained by Israeli occupation forces since 1967. About 17,000 women and girls and 50,000 children were among those detained.
According to Palestinian figures, over 4,500 Palestinians, including 40 women and 170 children, are currently languishing in Israeli detention jails.
