Beirut, ALRAY - The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East will face difficulties in providing the services to refugees in 2022, for the agency has a deficit of $60 million, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has warned.
Lazzarini indicated on Wednesday, during his meeting with a delegation of civil society institutions working with Palestinians in Lebanon, that donors’ commitment to providing money for the agency has retreated, confirming his constant working for securing money for the agency.
For its part, the delegation briefed the General-Commissioner Lazarinini of the humanitarian challenges facing Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, given the difficult economic and financial crisis of Lebanon.
As of 2019, about 475,075 Palestinian refugees are registered with UNRWA in Lebanon. The majority of them live in poverty, with about 56% are jobless.
