Gaza, ALRAY - Council on International Relations welcomed the statements made by the Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, which shed light on the ongoing violations of the Israeli occupation.
The council said in a statement issued Thursday that Bachelet’s statement is a serious indication and warning of the dangerous level of the violations committed against the Palestinian people.
“Bachelet’s statement is added to many UN and international reports that clearly shed light on the crimes of the occupation, whether by annexing the lands of the West Bank and Jerusalem, and the violence of settlers in them, or the severe siege of Gaza, or the harassment of human rights activists,” the statement said.
The Council was shocked by the continued silence of the international community towards these violations, warning at the same time of the explosion of the situation if the occupation is not deterred from its crimes.
The CIR called on all parties who wish to see calm and peace in the region to pressure the occupying power to stop its crimes, abide by international law and recognize the rights of the Palestinians.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, said Tuesday that the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has become “disastrous”, with severe infringements occurring affecting some four million people.
