West bank, ALRAY - The Israeli occupation authorities extended Saturday the administrative detention of Palestinian detainee Nidhal al-Qawasmi for another six months.

The extension came a few days before al-Qawasmi was set to be released after being held under administrative detention for more than 14 months.

Israeli occupation forces detained al-Qawasmi, 55, after storming his home in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron on 21 April 2021.

His detention was part of a large-scale arrest campaign launched by the Israeli occupation army against Hamas officials and cadres ahead of the Palestinian elections that were due to be held last year before being called off by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Al-Qawasmi had been jailed for nearly 11 years by the Israeli occupation authorities.

Around 500 Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli occupation prisons have been boycotting Israeli courts for the 176th day in a row to demand an end to the administrative detention policy.
