Jerusalem, ALRAY - Amnesty International has called on the Israeli occupation authorities to immediately release Palestinian minor detainee Ahmad Manasra.

“It is outrageous that the Israeli authorities have renewed Ahmad Manasra’s spell in solitary confinement," Heba Morayef, Amnesty International’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, said.

"Continuing to detain Ahmad Manasra in such inhumane conditions is a callous act of injustice," she added in a press statement Wednesday. "Ahmad has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is severely depressed."

Morayef urged the Israeli occupation to reverse its decision to renew Manasra's solitary confinement and urgently release him.

The Israeli prison administration, meanwhile, turned down a request to move Manasra out of solitary confinement at "Eshel" prison.

A further hearing regarding his solitary conditions will be held at the so-called Central District Court in the occupied city of Bir Seb'a (Be'er Sheva) on 16 August.
