Jerusalem, ALRAY - UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland has sent a team to visit Palestinian detainee Bassam al-Saadi in "Ofer" jail.
"Today, I dispatched a #UN team to visit Saadi to follow up on UN commitments to maintain calm in #Gaza, Wennesland said in a tweet.
The UN envoy stressed that the Egyptian-and-Qatari-brokered ceasefire that ended a three-day Israeli attack on the besieged Gaza Strip is "very fragile," calling on all sides to "preserve the calm."
According to the ceasefire agreement reached late Sunday night, Egypt pledged to work on releasing al-Saadi from Israeli occupation prisons.
Israeli occupation forces detained al-Saadi on 1 August after assaulting him during a raid on Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
