Occupied Jerusalem, ALRAY - The Representative of the European Union in occupied Palestine, Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff has called on the Israeli occupation authorities to immediately release Palestinian detainee Ahmad Manasra to receive necessary mental health care and counseling.
During a visit by to the Manasra home in Beit Hanina neighborhood, north of occupied Jerusalem, the Representative expressed concern over holding Manasra in solitary confinement since Nov 2021 despite serious mental health problems.
“‘Israel’, as a state party to the CRC, has an obligation to uphold its commitments to the human rights and protection of children. This includes guaranteeing fair trials for children and proportionate sentences in line with international standards under the child justice system,” Burgsdorff said.
On August 16, the Israeli occupation court in Ber Sheba extended the solitary confinement of the detainee Manasra for additional six months, despite difficult health and mental conditions.
According to Palestinian figures, about 4,500 Palestinians, including 32 women and 160 children, are currently languishing in Israeli detention jails.
