Washinton, ALRAY - The global online travel website Booking.com has announced it would start adding warnings to all reservations in the illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Booking.com pointed out that the warnings will tell customers that reservations in the Israeli settlements means that they are visiting an area which may be accompanied by an increased risk to safety and human rights or other risks to the local community and visitors.
“In accordance with this goal, we are attempting to ensure that our clients have the information needed in order to make decisions about destinations they wish to visit,” Booking.com added.
“Certain areas in the world affected by conflict may pose a greater risk to travelers, so we provide our customers with information to help make decisions and encourage them to check their government’s official travel guidelines as part of the decision-making process.”
It is noteworthy to mention that Amnesty International has issued a report, slamming several global travel companies for driving tourism to illegal Israeli settlements and contributing to their existence and expansion.
The report said that online booking giants Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia and TripAdvisor are fueling human rights violations against Palestinians by listing hundreds of rooms and activities in Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land, including East Jerusalem.
The report called for an international boycott of Israeli tourism operating in occupied Palestine.
