West Bank, ALRAY - 65 human right organizations called on the Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to achieve justice for the Palestinians, as a result of the Israeli practices against them.
The organizations noted in a joint letter to the high commissioner, that Israeli forces escalated its aggression against Palestinian cities, using collective punishment policy against Shuafat and Anata refugee camps, and shooting directly towards Palestinians to kill them.
It also noted that campaign of mass arbitrary arrests and detention is escalated, including arbitrary, forced and punitive administrative detention, in addition to depriving the Palestinian people of their right to self-determination for decades.
It stressed that human right status in Palestine must be on top of high commissioner’s agenda by prioritizing the annual update of the UN database of settlements.
It expressed its concern over the frequent unjustified delay of updating its database of settlements, attributing this to political pressure and interference in the work of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
It condemned Israel systematic procedures in quelling human right defenders, stressing its opposition to illegal Israeli policies and practices, including the arbitrary ban of six prominent Palestinian civil society organizations.
The organizations expressed confidence that such pressure would not deviate OHCHR from its commitment to human rights, justice and accountability.
It urged the new High Commissioner and his office to acknowledge the root causes of the prolonged denial of Palestinian rights due to settler colonialism and apartheid in Israel.
It called on them to prioritize the annual update of the UN database, as stipulated in Human Rights Council Resolution 31/36, and to ensure that appropriate resources are allocated to allow the database to continue to be developed and to continue working with civil society organizations and human rights defenders in order to constantly update and update the database.
It also called on to take a suitable stance towards Israeli systematic targeting of Palestinian people, including the blockade that has been imposed on Gaza strip since 15 years, shooting fires to kill, and the administrative detention.
