New York, ALRAY - UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese has called for launching a probe into "Israeli actions" in Palestine.

Speaking to BBC World Service Saturday, Albanese said that the investigation is "necessary" to hold the Israeli occupation accountable and put an end to its impunity.

The UN official's comments came following a joint statement by six European nations condemning the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

In the statement, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain voiced "grave concern" over the "continuing, growing violence in the occupied Palestinian territories."

The European countries strongly denounced the "indiscriminate violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians, including destruction of homes and properties," calling for all perpetrators to be held accountable.

Israeli colonial settlers carried out late Sunday night more than 320 attacks against Palestinian civilians and their property in several towns and villages near Nablus, killing one citizen, injuring hundreds more, and setting dozens of homes, stores, and cars on fire.

They continued: "We also reiterate our strong opposition to all unilateral measures that undermine the Two-state solution, including expansion of settlements which are illegal under international law."

They also called on the Israeli occupation government to reverse its decision to approve plans for the construction of more than 7,000 new illegal settlement units in the occupied West Bank and to legalise other illegal settlements.
