West Bank, ALRAY - Palestinian detainee Riyad al-Amour is facing serious and growing health problems as he continues to suffer from deliberate medical negligence in Israeli occupation jails for more than 20 years, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC).
Detained in 2002 and given 11 life sentences, al-Amour, 53, suffers from chronic heart problems.
The PPC explained that Al-Amour had had to wait more than 10 years to have a heart pacemaker.
In 2010, al-Amour underwent open heart surgery. Later, he suffered from problems with one of his heart valves.
Doctors emphasized that al-Amour needs a new surgery as soon as possible as his health continues to deteriorate.
Al-Amour had been detained several times by the Israeli occupation army. Following his detention, he had been subjected to lengthy interrogation in harsh conditions, during which he lost hearing in one of his ears due to severe torture.
He is one of the 35 Palestinian detainees who are being held in "Askalan" prison, 17 of whom are sick.
