West Bank, ALRAY - The Israeli military court of "Ofer" sentenced Palestinian detainee Moath Hamed to two life sentences and ordered him to pay a fine of 1,090,000 shekels ($290,000).

This brings the number of Palestinian detainees who have been sentenced to life in prison to 559, including the detainee Ibrahim Hamed, who was given 54 life sentences – the second-longest sentence in Israeli occupation prisons.

The Israeli occupation army detained Hamed during a raid on Silwad, east of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank, in April 2022.

The Israeli occupation authorities accused Hamed of allegedly killing an Israeli colonial settler and injuring three others after opening fire at a vehicle near the illegal settlement of "Shvut Rahel" in 2015.

The Israeli occupation is holding around 4,900 Palestinian detainees, including 34 women and nearly 160 children, in inhumane conditions and harsh conditions, according to Palestinian prisoners' rights organizations.
