Jerusalem, ALRAY - The United States is seeking more information from the Israeli occupation over its decision that Israeli occupation soldiers will not be criminally prosecuted over the killing of Palestinian-American Omar Asad, 80.
“We’re aware of the conclusion of the investigation, and we’re at this time seeking more information from the Israeli government about it,” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters Wednesday. “We’re going to talk to them directly about it.”
“We have been clear about our deep concern on the circumstances surrounding Omar Assad’s death and the need for such accountability,” Miller added.
The Israeli occupation army announced Tuesday that it closed its probe into the killing of Asad by Israeli occupation soldiers, alleging that "no causal link was found between the errors in the conduct of the soldiers and (As'ad's) death."
On 12 January 2022, the Israeli occupation forces arbitrarily detained, bound, blindfolded and gagged Assad, from Jiljilyya village in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, causing him to suffer a stress-induced heart attack after leaving him unresponsive on the ground at a cold construction site in the occupied West Bank.
Human rights groups have long asserted that the Israeli occupation rarely holds its soldiers accountable for their crimes against Palestinians in a way that often reflects a pattern of impunity amid international silence and inaction over such crimes.
