Jerusalem, ALRAY - The National Planning and Building Council of the Israeli occupation administration is scheduled to approve the construction of thousands of settlement units in the occupied West Bank.
According to a local source, the agenda of the committee includes the approval of the construction of 4,560 settlement units distributed over dozens of settlements.
The announcement comes despite the strong opposition to the move from the US.
Construction tenders are distributed over many settlements, the majority of which are classified as isolated and outside the settlement blocs.
The US administration exerted pressure on the entity not to approve the new construction plans. On the other hand, Israeli sources said that these plans come within the ceiling of 10,000 settlement units announced by the occupation last February in two batches.
The announcement of the approvals comes after the cancellation of the Withdrawal Law from Northern West Bank Settlements, which prompted the US administration to summon the Israeli ambassador in Washington to clarify the move. The Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, formed the staff of the Settlement Administration which seeks to crystallize settlement construction plans and remove existing outposts.
If the proposed number of settlement units is approved, it will be unprecedented for many years.
Israeli occupation Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has issued instructions to prepare plans to build 2,000 settlement units in the "Eli" settlement between Nablus and Ramallah.
