Jerusalem, ALRAY- The Israeli occupation has detained 2,190 Palestinian citizens in occupied Jerusalem since the start of the year, according to a human rights organization.
The Palestinian Prisoners Center for Studies said 495 minors and 68 women and girls were among the detained by the Israeli occupation in occupied Jerusalem so far this year
Over the past few weeks, the Israeli occupation has intensified its arbitrary practices against the Palestinian population of occupied Jerusalem, particularly fierce detention campaigns, in a bid to deter from defending the holy city and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Israeli occupation authorities have recently stepped up its campaign targeting Palestinian worshippers and defenders of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by issuing them orders barring them from accessing the Muslim holy site.
Riyad al-Ashqar, the centre’s director, explained that women, children, national and religious figures, in addition to sick and elderly people, were among the detained by the Israeli occupation in occupied Jerusalem.
The detained Palestinian Jerusalemites comprised around 45 per cent of all Palestinian citizens detained by the Israeli occupation during the same period, according to al-Ashqar.
Since the start of 2023, the Israeli occupation has issued 912 banishment orders, 270 house arrest orders, and dozens of “administrative detention” orders against Palestinian citizens of occupied Jerusalem.
The human rights expert called for supporting the Palestinian citizens of occupied Jerusalem in the face of the Israeli occupation’s measures targeting them.
