Gaza, ALRAY - Director of Border Crossings Department in Gaza Maher Abu Sabha said Monday evening that “the Egyptian side told the authority will open the Rafah crossing for only 4 hours on Wednesday and Thursday,”

Other sources said that the crossing will be open from 10 am to 2 pm.

President Mahmoud Abbas phoned Monday Egyptian Intelligence Chief Mohammad al-Tohami, and asked him to allow students, patients and humanitarian cases to leave the Gaza Strip, the official News Agency of Palestinian Authority in Ramallah (WAFA) said.

Egyptian authorities continue to close the Rafah crossing for the sixth consecutive day following an attack on a military intelligence headquarters in Egyptian Rafah city that claimed six army soldiers.

The Egyptian army announced Sunday it would step up the onslaught against militant groups thought to be based in the Sinai Peninsula, which borders Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Citing security concerns, the military has been destroying underground tunnels along borders with the Gaza Strip, which has been under a 7-year-Israeli blockade.
