Dr Attallah Abu AlSebah, the Minister of Detainee Affairs, denounced the brutal aggression by the Yamaz Drum Unit against Jamal Alhour, a member of the.Higher Committee for Prisoners.
In a press statement dated 5th December 2012 Dr Attallah Abu AlSebah described the Israeli assault on Jamal Alhour as another crime committed by Israeli forces against detainees.
The Yamaz Drum unit consists of 25 armed soldiers who stormed the Israeli Prison where Mr. Jamal Alhour is being held, and began vicously beating him without reason. Detainees in other sections began shouting and banging on the doors of their cells in an attempt to stop the assault.
Sources inside the prison said others prisoners were also injured in the fracas, including Alhour\'s son, Sajed Abu Galous and Ibrahim Abu Srour.
The Minister warned of deteriorating conditions inside the prison particularly in the light of such escalating attacks and violations against detainees. He also warned of the imposition of more punitive measures by the Israeli Prison Service following the success of the Palestinian Resistance in imposing their conditions on the Israeli occupation in the recent ceasefire agreement.
He stressed the need to unite national forces and media efforts to highlight detainee issues, and to take significant action to alleviate detainees’ suffering and to obtain their release. He emphasized the need to reach a solution for the hunger-striking detainees whose suffering the world ignores, and whose legitimate demands the Israeli Prison Services refuses.
Jamal Alhour is from Hebron and was detained on 10th April 1997, then sentenced to five terms of life imprisonment plus 18 years. He is a senior member in the prisoners\' movement, and led the hunger strike last May.
