DOHA, Alray — Two Palestinian children had the chance to meet international soccer star Lionel Messi in the Qatari capital of Doha on Monday.
Messi visited Doha as the global brand ambassador of the Qatari telecommunications company Ooredoo.
Thanks to a partnership between Ooredoo and Palestine’s Wataniya Telecom, Saliha Hamdeen and Nasr Smeirat were able to meet the Barcelona FC star in Doha.
“We seek to draw a smile on the faces of our children. We succeeded to help two children realize their dream of meeting Lionel Messi. Saliha Hamdeen, the girl who won the prestigious international Hans Christian Creativity Award, realized her dream and met Messi,” said Wataniya’s general manager Fayiz al-Huseini.
Saliha’s fictional story competed with 1,200 entries to win the award.
Nasr is a rising star at the soccer club in al-Amari refugee camp, one of the best clubs in the West Bank. He was able to play soccer with Messi.
