Palestinian detainees this morning began a mass hunger strike to protest the death of detainee Arafat Jaradat and to condemn Israeli aggressions against them, Palestinian Detainees Movement Inside Israeli Jails announced.  The hunger strike is expected to last for three days.

A father of two children, Arafat Jaradat from Hebron died yesterday in an Israeli jail after being subjected to several days of physical and psychological torture, according to Wa’ed Association for Detainees.

Wa’ed also advised that Jaradat was in good health before his arrest, and did not suffer from any diseases or health conditions.

Israel's internal security service, Shin Bet, said in a statement that Jaradat began feeling ill while resting after eating lunch, and that a police inquiry into the circumstances of his death had begun.

Jaradat was arrested last week for allegedly being involved in stone-throwing that had wounded an Israeli in the occupied West Bank, the Shin Bet said.
