Gaza, ALRAY - Egyptian authorities continue to close the Rafah crossing for the eight day in a row, Border Crossings Department in Gaza said Maher Abu Sabha said on Wednesday.
Director of the department Maher Abu Sabha said they recently asked the Egyptian side to reopen the crossing to humanitarian cases, without recieving any positive responses until now.
Thousands of passengers stranded in Gaza as a result of the continuing closure of the crossing, he said.
Rafah crossing is considered the main way out for the 1.8 million Gaza population.
There have been frequent closures of the Rafah terminal since July 2013. The Egyptian authorities afterwards opened the crossing two or three times a month only for patients, students and people who hold residential lease agreement.
