West Bank, ALRAY - The Israeli occupation has issued nine so-called administrative detention orders against Palestinian journalists since the start of the year, the Journalist Support Committee (JSC) has found.
In a report published Monday, the JSC explained that the Israeli occupation continued to hand Palestinian media workers administrative detention orders despite international warnings of such practice.
On 27 July, the Israeli military court of "Ofer" extended the administrative detention of Palestinian reporter Omar Abu al-Rubb without charge or trial for another four months.
An Israeli military court also renewed the administrative detention of Palestinian journalist Nidal Abu Akar, 55, for another six-month period for the third consecutive time.
On 2 July, the Israeli military court of "Salem" issued a six-month administrative detention order against Palestinian reporter Mohammad Muna, 41, a few days after his detention.
According to the JSC report, the Israeli occupation is still holding six Palestinian journalists under administrative detention based on "secret evidence."
The JSC called on human rights groups to immediately intervene to put an end to the arbitrary detention of Palestinian media practitioners without charge or trial.
The NGO group also urged the UN Security Council to implement Resolution 2222 on the protection of journalists and to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its violations against Palestinian media workers.
The non-profit organisation called on the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and press freedom advocacy groups to work on releasing all 20 Palestinian journalists held in Israeli occupation prisons.
