London, ALRAY - British Minister for the Middle East Affairs James Cleverley has condemned the Israeli occupation’s announcement to go forward with the construction of settlement buildings in an illegal settlement in the occupied West Bank.

The minister asserted, in a press statement on Wednesday, that the Israeli decision to construct 1,257 settlement units in the Givat HaMatos illegal settlement in the occupied West Bank would violate international law and, risks causing serious damage to the prospects for a viable Palestinian state.

“We condemn this decision, which is incompatible with Israel’s declared goal of peace,” Cleverly said, calling for both the tender process and the advancement of other settlements in East Jerusalem and elsewhere in the West Bank to be suspended immediately.

Earlier, the so-called “Israel Land Authority” announced on its website that it had opened up tenders for more than 1,200 new structures in the settlement of Givat Hamatos, according to the Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now.
