Gaza, ALRAY - The security services in Ramallah government arrested Palestinian journalist George Qanawati in Bethlehem at Monday night.
Sources from Radio Bethlehem 2000 told Safa Press that Qanawati, who heads Bethlehem Radio Bethlehem 2000, was arrested came against on the backdrop of the recent episode of his show "Amar Ya Balad", which was broadcast on Thursday at 11:00 AM.
The source explained that "a Palestinian police force raided and inspected Qanawati's house, and then drove him to a police station in the city, to be prosecuted later on charges of libel and slander on the name of the provincial police director,"
Qanawati has been frequently arrested by the security services in Bethlehem on charges related to his media practice.
In late September, a report issued by The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) had accused the PA forces of coercing detained journalists to reveal their emails and social accounts passwords during investigation.
The report said the last two years saw an increase in the PA security services' attacks on journalists and bloggers for expressing their opinion on social media.
MADA called on all relevant authorities to respect freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed in Article 19 of the Palestinian Basic Law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
